Have a problem with mosquitos all over your backyard, and now you are getting bit when you want to just relax in the nice summer weather? Make sure to follow these tips so you know how to deal with them.

Know How To Inspect For Mosquitoes

Do you know why you have a mosquito problem? It's important to look around your home for places that have standing water since this is where mosquitoes tend to breed. Do you have rain gutters that are filling up with water? Is there a birdbath where the mosquitoes gather around? Are there low parts of your property where water tends to pool? These could be the spots that the mosquitos are coming from. Standing water is definitely something that you don't want to have on your property, so try to find all the places with potential water-pooling issues.

Know How To Control The Mosquitoes

The first thing you should do is eliminate all of the standing water that you can control. This means getting rid of the birdbath that isn't being used and fixing all those places where water is collecting. However, there are some places where you do not have control. Ponding water is difficult to make go away, so you'll have to treat it instead. There are larvicides that you can scatter over ponding water that are designed to kill mosquitoes as larvae and prevent mosquitoes from reproducing.

In addition, there are insect growth regulators that can be sprayed on your lawn to treat the mosquitoes that were not affected by the larvicide. These growth regulators should be evenly sprayed over the grass by starting from the back of the yard and moving to the front. Hopefully, it does its job of killing off the remaining mosquitoes.

You can also install a mosquito misting system. It will spray a pesticide in your yard at set times from sprayers that are strategically placed around your yard. Ideally, you'll want to set these sprays to release the mist in the early morning when mosquitoes are out for them to be most effective.

Know How To Prevent The Mosquitoes From Coming Back

You'll want to be proactive with these treatments throughout the year, which is best done at the time of year when the weather is cooler and the mosquitoes are first starting to show up. If you wait until the peak of the summer heat to perform a mosquito treatment, it won't be nearly as effective as if you treated them in early summer when the weather is cooler.

Protecting Your Family With Pest Control

How often do you double check your front door or make sure that your garage door is closed? Although installing a home security system and giving your children instructions about stranger danger might seem like second nature, some people forget that there are real safety threats sitting around their windowsills. My child was bitten by a poisonous spider a few years ago, and ever since then, I have worked to increase awareness about the importance of pest control. A little pesticide can keep dangerous bugs from seeking refuge in your home and threatening your family. My website discusses different ways to keep your kids safe.
