Sugar ants refer to ants that are attracted to sugary items such as sugars or anything sweet in your pantry. There are a number of ants that can be classified as sugar ants. If you spot them in your pantry, or even in your dirty clothing, in your underwear drawer, or even around your toilet (as you may be releasing sugar from the body, as in those with diabetes), it could be a sign that you have a sugar ant problem. If you have this issue, read on for a few things you can do to help get rid of them.
Sprinkle Diatomaceous Earth
You should sprinkle some diatomaceous earth around your home, including in the areas where you have seen the ants to help kill them. When the ants get the dust from the earth on them, it will kill them. This is a non-toxic method to kill these ants. You can use a pesticide, but it shouldn't be sprayed near your food. You should also spray for ants outside of your home to prevent the ants from coming into your home in the first place. Diatomaceous earth can help outside as well.
Pick Up Your Belongings
Pick up your clothing from the floor, and be sure you are washing your clothing thoroughly to prevent the sugar ants from being attracted to your clothing in the first place. If you spot these ants in your drawer, you need to wash your clothing in hot water to help get rid of the sugars inside of the fabric. Clean your drawers thoroughly with a mixture of white vinegar and dish soap. Also clean your laundry basket thoroughly as well, as you may be finding sugar ants in these areas too.
Prevent Intruding Pests
Prevent these intruders from coming into your home by keeping your home clean, and also by repairing your house to prevent entry. Make repairs to seals around your windows and doors where the ants can easily come inside. If you have holes around your foundation or cracks in your siding, you should make repairs to these areas as well.
If you are finding sugar ants in your home, you need to take the necessary steps to prevent the ants from coming in and get rid of them before they take over your home. Hiring a pest control company to get rid of the sugar ants in your home is also something you should do.

A little pesticide can keep dangerous bugs from seeking refuge in your home and threatening your family. My website discusses different ways to keep your kids safe.
